Clough completed the detailed Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning (EPPC), Fabrication contract and handover of the upgraded sections of the Wesfarmers’ liquid petroleum gas (LPG) plant, located at Kwinana in Western Australia.
The project involved the replacement of the existing trays (32 levels) in the two fractionation columns with the latest technology high-performance tray, the addition of a hot oil waste heat recovery unit to a gas turbine exhaust, thus increasing the cooling capacity of the depropaniser and debutaniser air-cooled heat exchangers and replacing the depropaniser reboiler with a much larger unit.
The project also involved extensive civil, structural, piping, electrical and control system modification.
The project assisted in upgrading the capability of the plant's gas processing and increased production capacity from 900 to 1,000 tonnes of LPG per day, which was achieved by replacing the depropaniser and debutaniser internals.
