Clough completed the construction contract for the Stirling Bridge, at the Stirling River in Fremantle, Western Australia.
The project involved the devlivery of a 450m, seven-span, twin spine prestressed concrete bridge featuring sophisticated falsework and required unit handling equipment to support the 292 x 50 tonne segments of the structure.
The segments were manufactured in Clough’s precast yard in Kewdale, Western Australia. The bridge was erected in 12 stages, with each spine erected in an alternating sequence, typically from the quarter point to the quarter point of the succeeding span. The bridge was supported on steel piles filled with concrete. The piles, up to 55m long, were driven down through sands and founded in a dense black sandy clay.
