Webuild is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Molto Bello: Icons of Modern Italian Design exhibition, taking place at the Heide Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne, Australia.

Running from 26 October 2024 to 23 March 2025, this impressive exhibition will celebrate some of the most significant achievements in 20th-century Italian design, recognising the powerful connection between design and engineering.

Molto Bello explores the rich history of Italian design, showcasing the fusion of Italy’s deep-rooted craft tradition with cutting-edge technological advances and creative innovation. The exhibition tells the remarkable story of how Italian design became globally renowned for its elegance, functionality, and forward-thinking approach.

The exhibition features over 170 iconic objects, spanning six decades from the 1930s Milan Design Triennale to the creations of the Memphis Group in the 1980s. Spread across Heide’s Main Galleries and Heide Modern, it celebrates the work of influential designers who shaped global culture.

The exhibition’s collection includes vintage and reeditioned furniture, lighting, typewriters, espresso machines, and iconic transportation designs. Key highlights include:

  • Vespa GS 150 and 1957 Fiat Nuova 500, representing the innovation in Italian transport design
  • Gio Ponti’s Superleggera chair, a groundbreaking design in both form and function
  • Joe Colombo’s futuristic Elda chair from 1963, an example of boundary-pushing interior design
  • A special gallery dedicated to the visionary work of Gaetano Pesce, honoring his recent passing
  • Playful postmodern pieces by Ettore Sottsass and the Memphis Group, highlighting their lasting impact on global design aesthetics

Through these pieces, visitors can explore the seamless blending of art and science, craftsmanship and technology, concepts that resonate deeply with Webuild’s own history, as a global leader in construction and engineering.

The Molto Belllo exhibit is the latest in a series of art events sponsored by Webuild, who is also the main sponsor of the Leonardo da Vinci – 500 Years of Genius experience at The LUME Melbourne.

Webuild is proud to invest in both the cultural landscape and infrastructure of Victoria, which is a key strategic market for the Group. Webuild is currently delivering the North East Link project, which once complete, will be the state’s longest road tunnel. Additionally, Webuild was recently selected as the preferred bidder for the Suburban Rail Loop, which will expand Melbourne’s sustainable mobility network.

Australia is the Group’s largest market outside of Italy, supported by its local subsidiary, Clough. Together, Webuild and Clough are delivering some of the nation’s most significant projects, including Snowy 2.0 and the Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport line in New South Wales, and the Perdaman’s Ceres Urea Plant and Woodman Point Water Treatment Facility upgrade in Western Australia.

Molto Bello: Icons of Modern Italian Design is also supported by the Italian Australian Foundation and the John and Rose Downer Foundation.
