Clough’s long-standing partnership with Engineers Australia supports our engineers in achieving chartered status. Through the Engineering Workforce Credentialing Program, many of our engineers have taken the opportunity to obtain their Chartership in various areas of engineering practice, including Leadership & Management, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Process, Construction Engineering, and Project Management.

Alan Hall, Senior Project Manager, recently obtained his Chartership through the Program and simultaneously achieved the status of Fellow of Engineers Australia. Learn more about Alan’s career journey below!

“I started my career as an electrical apprentice over 35 years ago, working for an electrical utility in regional Queensland.

“I spent 15 years on the tools working in maintenance and construction of High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EVH) substations and Powerlines across the state. Whilst still working in the electrical trade, I commenced studying for my Bachelor of Engineering Technology and, upon completing this course, took up a role as an estimator/concept design officer before moving into project/program management, delivering high voltage substations and transmission lines.

“After moving into more senior management positions for several years, I decided to return to engineering and completed a Master of Engineering Practice (Power Systems). This course gave me the recognition to become a full member of Engineers Australia.

“On completion of this course, I should have applied for chartered membership as this was the goal of the course, however life got in the way, new job, increasing demands of family, school, and sport. The partnership with Engineers Australia has allowed me to complete that goal and become a registered professional engineer in Queensland.

“I joined Clough in 2021 when a previous manager I had worked with invited me to come and join his team to support the business with EHV substation and transmission line projects.

“As a Senior Project Manager, I lead and support tenders and projects in my discipline area of high and extra high voltage substations and transmission lines through design and engineering management, managing design consultants, and leading internal engineering teams. I also undertake constructability reviews, safety in design sessions, along with supporting and advising commercial, procurement, estimating, safety and quality teams.”

In addition to the extensive experience and knowledge Alan brings to the team, he is also dedicated to inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals, actively participating in industry and STEM events.

“One of the aspects of working at Clough that I am passionate about is the training of the next generation of apprentices and engineers. Passing on what I have learnt over the course of my career and preparing them to take over the helm is very rewarding.

“Clough’s partnership with EA streamlined the pathway to Chartership - information about the program was readily available, and the facilitation of the paperwork was seamless. I was grateful to end up becoming a Fellow of Engineers Australia.”

Alan's accolade as a Fellow signifies his notable contributions to the field of engineering and underscores his exceptional professional proficiency.

“I am excited about the increasing number of mega projects on the horizon for Clough and Webuild. With all the opportunities now opening up across the business, it’s a great time to be part of the team.”
