TBM Zelda’s North East Link journey - Webuild, as part of Spark North East Link Tunnels D&C, recently celebrated the breakthrough of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Zelda in Bulleen, marking the completion of excavation of the northbound tunnel on Victoria’s biggest ever road project.

TBM Zelda was launched from Watsonia in August 2024 to excavate the twin three-lane tunnels that will form North East Link. Since then, TBM Zelda excavated 5.3 kilometres of tunnel and installed more than 21,000 concrete segments to construct the tunnel lining. 

Her breakthrough was a major milestone for the Project and for the thousands of people contributing to this transformative infrastructure development.
 
Webuild, as part of the Spark Joint Venture, is delivering the North East Link tunnels for the Victorian Government. The project will enable a more sustainable future by taking 15,000 trucks off local roads every day and reducing travel times by up to 35 minutes for drivers. Once complete, it will be the longest road tunnel in Victoria at 6.5 kilometres.
