The North East Link (NEL) Project team continues to make great progress with the crew hard at work preparing for the commencement of tunnelling.
On the North side of the project at the vent tunnel site, construction of the deceleration plant is ongoing, while the site is primed for the road header to arrive in late-July.
Works are continuing on the tunnel boring machine launch box site and the precast segment shed in Watsonia, and works have begun on the installation of the conveyor belt at the spoil shed at Winsor Reserve.
On the South side of the project, a 450-tonne crane has arrived at Manningham to lift the d-wall corners into place while utility works across the area continue. Additionally, surface works on the new car park at Carey Grammar have commenced.
About the project
Webuild, with Clough, as part of the Spark Consortium is delivering the North East Link Primary Package in Melbourne. The project scope includes the design and construction of twin three-lane tunnels approximately 6.5 kilometres long, and other related works. Once complete, it will be the longest road tunnel in Victoria, providing an essential link in the city’s freeway network, reducing congestion and travel times for tens of thousands of motorists. The project will enable a more sustainable future by taking 15,000 trucks off local roads every day and reducing travel times by up to 35 minutes for commuters.
