Burwood piling ahead with major milestones achieved - Strong progress continued across the Suburban Rail Loop’s Burwood site in May, with several key construction milestones driving momentum, including the completion of surface conveyor installation in preparation for tunnelling works.

At the Northern Tunnelling Access Shaft (NTAS) and station box, all 300 soft piles have now been completed, with hard pile construction nearing the finish line. The first layer of excavation at the NTAS is complete and ready for strut installation, while capping beam construction across both the NTAS and Burwood station box has reached 45% completion!

Burwood in numbers:

  • Approximately 6,400m³ of concrete placed

  • ~36,000 tonnes of crushed rock installed

  • 855 tonnes of reinforcing steel installed

  • ~110,000 tonnes of spoil excavated

Webuild, as part of Terra Verde Joint Venture, is delivering the excavation of two parallel tunnels for nearly 10 kilometres between the future stations of Box Hill and Glen Waverley, the creation of 39 cross passages between them; two station boxes, two TBM launch sites, and one intervention and ventilation shaft.
