Civil Project Engineer - Buildings

We have an exciting expatriate opportunity for an experienced Project Engineer with experience in commercial or infrastructure buildings to join our Lombrum Naval Base project supporting the Buildings team based on Manus Island PNG.  Reporting to the SPE - Buildings, in this role you will effectively support the project team through delivering the buildings scope of works through construction, installation and commissioning.

This role is based on Manus Island in Papua New Guinea working 28 days on, 14 days off roster.

Clough has been awarded the Lombrum Naval Base (LNB) Infrastructure project in PNG. The project includes the delivery of infrastructure and facilities at LNB. The main works will see infrastructure construction across the LNB. This includes water infrastructure, waste-water infrastructure, power generation, marine infrastructure and buildings.

 Your focus will include:  

  • Providing detailed engineering input within the buildings scope of works that ensures  delivery of works on time and within budget to client satisfaction
  • Preparing and reviewing field installation work packs
  • Working closely with the project team including superintendents, planners, procurement, HSSE, commercial, and QA/QC staff to ensure timely, cost effective and fit for purpose engineering and construction
  • Managing the delivery of subcontractor work packages on time and within budget
  • Participating in hazard and safety reviews on site, and executing visible safety leadership
  • Providing advice to subcontractors and actively finding solutions to technical or project issues as required, in a timely manner

What you will bring to the team:  

  • Degree qualified in Engineering or equivalent construction management with a minimum of 5 years of relevant hands-on project engineering experience within the building space
  • Project delivery of commercial buildings, prisons, hospitals, schools, defence compounds or similar will be looked at favorably
  • Demonstrated experience in all aspects of concrete, services installation and finishes within buildings packages 
  • Strong commitment to safety from design to construction 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work well in a team
  • Knowledge of Australian Codes and Standards
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving working skills with the ability to set priorities and manage own time
  • Experience working on site in a fast-paced construction environment
  • Experience working in PNG and/or a remote environment is highly preferred but not essential
