The Spark North East Link team continues to make significant progress across the Project, with key milestones taking shape across multiple work fronts.
Manningham
Preparations are well under way at the box site ahead of the arrival of the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). Surface structural works are progressing to support the TBM gantry rails, while haul roads have been altered to enable future TBM disassembly.
Motorway Control Centre (MCC)
Installation of structural timber has commenced for the Level 1 structure and façade, an exciting step forward in construction. The majority of the timber has been sustainably sourced from Tasmania and fabricated in Heyfield, Victoria by Australian Sustainable Hardwoods. Once complete, the MCC will feature:
◼️ More than 90 tonnes of timber in the main structure
◼️ An additional 22 tonnes in the façade
This timber will remain visible, forming an architectural feature through exposed columns and beams.
North Progress
The Alternative Motorway Control Centre is nearing its full height, reaching close to 49 metres.
Webuild, as part of the Spark Joint Venture, is delivering North East Link. The project will take 15,000 trucks off local roads every day and reduce travel times by up to 35 minutes for commuters. Once complete, it will be the longest road tunnel in Victoria. Learn more about the project here.
