SSTOM project update - three precast diamond beams, each weighing 61 tonnes and measuring nearly 20 metres long, have been successfully installed at the Sydney Metro Orchard Hills Station.
These uniquely shaped beams play both a structural and architectural role, supporting the future canopy while also remaining visible to passengers on the platform. The complex installation was completed during a single night shift using a 750-tonne crane.
Custom moulds, transport frames, and a millimetre-perfect steel plate setup were all required due to the beam’s non-standard geometry. With this milestone complete, the team now moves into waler beam construction and canopy installation.
