Perdaman’s Project Ceres team recently commissioned its own concrete batching plant, which is now ready for full use! The batching plant, which is located on the project site on the Burrup Peninsula, was developed and installed in collaboration with local Pilbara businesses.

The new batching plant has a daily average output capacity of 500m3, and with the help of seven concrete agitator trucks, will supply concrete for a majority of the project, including our project scope of work within the Pilbara Ports Area. Currently, the site team is pouring just over 1,000 cubic meters per week with a target of nearly 3,000 cubic meters per week during peak production.

Prior to commissioning the batching plant, the project received its concrete from suppliers located near the town of Karratha, approximately 20 kms away from the site. This put major strains on public roads and traffic with several trucks going back and forth from the site throughout the day. By commissioning a batching plant on-site, the project has ensured minimum disruption to public utilities, removed large trucks from the local roads which improves public safety, reduced overall carbon and dust emissions, and improved sustainability and efficiency.

Additionally, the batching plant is equipped with water chillers and insulated water tanks to ensure the produced concrete temperature is around 25˚ Celsius, even during peak summer when ambient temperatures are expected to be above 40˚ Celsius.
