Clough is proud to announce the award of the Head Contractor scope for the Lombrum Infrastructure Project (Main Works), a joint initiative of the Australian and PNG Governments to redevelop the Lombrum Naval Base. The scope of the Lombrum Infrastructure Project was developed and agreed in consultation with the PNGDF, and has been designed to benefit the local community and includes the construction, support, maintenance, and repair services of the Lombrum Naval Base, located in Manus Province, Papua New Guinea (PNG).
The construction will provide economic and employment benefits to the people of Manus Province and PNG. The project includes replacing Manus Island’s electrical generation, base water infrastructure, and base waste-water infrastructure. The infrastructure construction will also include community, work, training, recreation, and accommodation facilities owned and operated by the PNG Defence Force.
Peter Bennett, Clough CEO and Managing Director said: “Clough has a long history of delivering projects in PNG and we are proud to have been selected through the Joint Initiatives procurement process as the contractor to redevelop the Lombrum Naval Base, a key component in the Australian Government’s Step-Up Program and a legacy project that will benefit Manus Province with work, training, and infrastructure”.
John Galvin, Executive Vice President Australia and Asia Pacific, said: “We are proud to be part of this strategic project for Australia and PNG and to bring our expertise of over 35 years delivering infrastructure projects in the region. The project provides a unique opportunity in creating opportunities for the local community, suppliers, and talent”.
The Lombrum Infrastructure Project will restore and enhance the sovereign capability of the PNG Defence Force (PNGDF) by refurbishing and rebuilding fundamental infrastructure at Lombrum Naval Base and contribute to building the Papua New Guinea Defence Force’s capability to protect its borders and maritime resources.
